Have you ever seen anything quite like this? Likely to turn heads wherever it goes and undoubtably one of the most extreme designs of the immediate post war period. This Tatra T600 Tatraplan has been resident in a Swedish VW museum for many years but I have recently returned it to the road. It has a 1952cc 4 cylinder air cooled boxer engine that runs sweetly. I have fitted new tyres, tubes and dyna-beads wheel balancing. The brakes have been re-shoed and the master cylinder rebuilt. It is now UK registered and ready to use. Come and be astonished by this car on my stand at the Goodwood Revival meeting, over the road, stand number 213.

This 1966 Tatra 2-603 (chassis T603H79361507573) is a former museum car that looks to be in fantastic condition. Said to be in exceptional running and driving condition as well, it’s easily one of the nicest streamlined Tatras we’ve ever featured and counts both an unusual but attractive color combo as well as a rare nose configuration in its favor. Find it here on eBay in Saint Ann, Missouri with a $36,900 BIN. Special thanks to BaT reader Kyle K. for this submission.

As much as owners hate to hear it, the Porsche 911 does have a direct lineage to the Volkswagen Beetle, Dr. Ferdinand Porsche’s “people’s car” designed for the German government in 1938. Teardrop shaped, rear-engined, slippery and aerodynamic, a 911 is unlike anything else on the road. It’s also set apart by being one of the last cars in the world to have its engine mounted behind the rear axle. So if the 911 came from the Beetle, where did the Beetle come from? That’s not an easy question to answer, but for a direct ancestor, you easily start with Tatra, the Czechoslovakian company that gave us one of the most enduring powertrain layouts in history, and built cars unlike anything that has come before or since.

Issy-les-Moulineaux, 24th of August, 2015 |
Withdrawal of Peru from the 2016 Dakar and cancelation of the 2015 Desafio Inca The Organizers of the Dakar have acknowledged the final decision of the Peruvian authorities to cancel the Inca Desafío, which was scheduled to be held this coming 11 to 13 September, as well as the stages of the 2016 Dakar that were presented last April during a joint press conference. Due to forecasts concerning the El Nino weather phenomenon, which is expected to be extremely violent this year, the Peruvian government has decided to make this issue a national priority by ensuring that all state services are able to mobilize if necessary to help the population that could be affected. While hoping that the people of Peru will not have to face these predicted disasters, the entire Dakar organizing team is already hard at work to create an alternative route with optimal sporting and safety conditions both in Argentina and Bolivia. The Dakar organizing team is at the disposal of all the competitors who have already entered to provide all relative information concerning these route changes in a timely manner. The final route of the 2016 Dakar will be announced in the second half of September. |
