Greg Zyla: Tatra cars and trucks, then and now.
Q: Greg, I enjoy your column and want to know about a vehicle called the Tatraplan T-600. My friend once had one, and it would be interesting to see what info you have on this company. My friend told me they also built a V-8, too. Is this correct? Thanks much, Lee K., Illinois.
A: Lee, your friend is correct. But first, here’s my recollection of Tatraplan and what the company is up to today.
The first I ever heard of a Tatraplan automobile was 30 years ago from a legendary drag racer by the name of Jack Read full article

Rishi claims to own Tatra
Ravi Rishi lights his cigarette after taking permission from others in the room, and he does it without looking at the cigarette, focusing on you like a kung fu artist in a spar. He stares you in the eye even while cracking randy jokes and when his guffaws become infectious. More at…….
Constitutional Court rejects former defense minister’s Tatra complaint
Brno, July 10 (CTK) – The Czech Constitutional Court (US) has rejected a complaint lodged by former defence minister Martin Bartak about the circumstances of his criminal prosecution over alleged corruption, CTK found out from the court’s database yesterday.
The court made the decision without public hearing in June.
Bartak is suspected of having asked for a bribe in connection with the purchase of Tatra lorries for the military in 2008.
The police started to prosecute Bartak last November. Bartak lodged another constitutional complaint against the protracted investigation still before, but the court also dismissed it.
In the complaint that the court has just dismissed Bartak claimed that he is being prosecuted illegally, that evidence is missing in the case and that the deed for which he is prosecuted does not have all law-embedded signs of a criminal act.
Tatra in the Kaliningrad press
Remember Top Gear & Tatra?
In the early Nineties I appeared on a car show for Channel 4 calledDriven, which was produced by my friend Muriel Gray. This was a show that used a lot of the same tropes that Top Gear would later employ. Muriel knew that I had a great affection for Tatra cars which were made in Czechoslovakia. As a child visiting Prague with my communist parents we would be chauffeured around in fleets of futuristic-looking Tatra T603s, a vehicle that featured three headlights, space-age styling and a massive V8 engine in the rear. Now, in the Nineties, following the collapse of communism, a man was importing the last of the line, the Tatra 613, into Britain and I was to do a piece on him and the car.
