Czech heavy vehicles manufacturer Tatra Trucks is negotiating to sell a manufacturing licence to the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) to produce at least 10,000 model TERR No 1 vehicles over a five-year period.
The vehicles would have both military and civilian applications, according to Czech defence industry sources.
Tatra Trucks was unwilling to specify the value of the licence sale, but local media reported it would total in the hundreds of millions of crowns (CZK100 million equates to USD5 million).
Officials from the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade and senior management at Tatra Trucks said they expect the final contract to be signed in October to coincide with an official visit to China by Czech President Milos Zeman.
This 1951 T600 Tatraplan (chassis 76338) is one of 6,300 or so built and is said to retain its original interior. The car’s flat four and transmission were rebuilt using OEM parts in its native Czech Republic in 2012, and overall the car looks quite nice in photos. Many of these have received VW swaps due to poor parts availability, but we’re glad to see this one retain its original drivetrain. Find it here on eBay in Germany with a $76k BIN.

Dutch daily De Telegraaf in cooperation with the Autovisie magazin, phoned me last year if I would be interested to show a Tatra in their series “Uw Garage.” Due to mechanical problems, I had no car available and we decided to wait until this spring when I expected to have a car ready. I had two condtions: wheather had to be dry and the video had to be shot in Amsterdam along the canals. Mid May we reserved a whole day and here is the result. It was more or less announced by the Dutch Daily De Telegraaf on saturday, May 31, while a two page article appeared in the Autovisie Magazin of June 5th.
