Denmark orders CAESAR howitzers on 8×8 Tatra trucks
Tatra has confirmed that it will supply 8×8 T-8 truck chassis for the Nexter CAESAR 155 mm/52-calibre self-propelled howitzers that have been ordered by Denmark.

Denmark’s defence minister announced the selection on 14 March, saying Nexter had won the tender to supply 15 CAESARs. Jeppe Reng, a spokesman at the Danish Ministry of Defence (FMN), told Jane’s the DKK300 million (USD43.6 million) contract also includes an option for an additional five and that deliveries are scheduled to commence in 2020.
The CAESARs will replace the US-built M109A3 howitzers currently in service with the Danish Army.
Reng said the FMN had not specifically requested that the CAESAR be mounted on the Tatra chassis, but Nexter had offered this configuration to meet its requirement. He added that the CAESAR was selected over the Elbit ATMOS system in the final round of testing.
“Nexter Systems offered the CAESAR 8×8 Tatra as their artillery system candidate,” he said. “[It] was deemed the most advantageous in terms of technical requirements, acquisition costs, and life cycle costs.”
The use of the 8×8 chassis will enable the Danish CAESARs to carry a heavier payload than the 6×6 versions that are currently in service. They will be fitted with a new automated loading system and be able to carry 30 rounds of ammunition.
Tatra Trucks spokesperson Andrej Cirtek told journalists the Danish CAESARs will use the T-815 chassis configured with a Tatra eight-cylinder direct air-cooled engine coupled with a Tatra-Norgren semi-automatic transmission offering a full-time 8×8 capability. It will have a pneumatic suspension system for all four axles, which Cirtek said is unique for a vehicle of this weigh class.
Tatra trucks manufactured in Armenia to be sold to Iran
PanARMENIAN.Net - Tatra trucks set to be manufactured in a soon-to-be-launched factory in Armenia will be sold to Iran.
Tatra is a Czech manufacturer producing vehicles. Owned by the Tatra Truck company, it is the second oldest company in the world producing cars with an unbroken history, after Peugeot.
A truck production factory will be built in Armenia’s Kotayk province, according to a memorandum signed between Tatra Trucks and Zenon LLC. The deal is the result of an agreement reached between prime minister Karen Karapetyan and Russia-based Armenian business people.
Chief of Gazprom Armenia Artashat branch Andranik Harutyunyan told PanARMENIAN.Net that the deal was made possible due to his own personal connections.
“The Czech side are my friends, and I have worked with the prime minister for years. So I serve as a link between the two,” Harutyunyan said, adding that negotiations over creating the factory started back in November.
“Once we launched the talks, I had a personal meeting with the Iranian ambassador to Armenia to brief him on the preliminary agreements,” Harutyunyan said.
“The Iranian side accepted the perspective with great enthusiasm, taking into account the EU sanctions. We thus secured a large market for the sale of trucks. “
According to Harutyunyan, the trucks will be exchanged for Iranian goods, which will be consumed in the Armenian and Russian markets alike.
A second phase of the deal will seek to sell the trucks to Russia, which is deemed a wise move in the light of the sanctions against the country, Harutyunyan said. “No sanctions last forever, so we must try to benefit from the situation while we can,” he remarked.

Tatraplan among 700 to be auctioned, unrestored cars in the U.S.
If you’ve been looking for an obscure project car, we can think of few better places to find one than at this upcoming car auction. Minnesota auction company VanDerBrink Auctions will sell off the collection of over 700 vehicles Ron Hackenberger has amassed over the years. Everything will be sold at no reserve, and from what we can tell, even fans of the most unusual machines will be able to find something.
For instance, if you’re into tiny cars, he has a few from all over the world, including a few Honda N600s and Z600s, several Crosleys, an Isetta, and even a Goggomobil. We also spotted a Subaru 360 lurking in one of the photos. Hackenberger has an array of European classics such as British and Italian roadsters, and various French cars, including a number of Citroen DSs and 2CVs. There are plenty more typical, large American classics including Kaisers, Packards, and Hudsons. Peppered among the much older classics are some more recent vehicles. Two of the most famous, or infamous, gull-winged automobiles, a DeLorean and a Bricklin SV-1, appear in the garage. Hackenberger even has an Amphicar and a rear-engine Tatra from the former Czechoslovakia. The collection isn’t limited to cars, either. Several tractors and bumper cars are also part of the collection.
Even with all the variety in Hackenberger’s collection, one brand of vehicle does stand apart as a clear favorite. Among the man’s 700 vehicles, 250 were built by Studebaker. This likely has something to do with the fact that, according to VanDerBrink Auctions, Hackenberger’s first car was a 1948 Studebaker. In the pictures of the collection, you’ll find loads of Studebaker trucks, compact Larks, and stylish Hawks. He has at least one original, Studebaker-built Avanti, as well as some horse-drawn wagons and buggies from the company’s early days.
If you’re interested in purchasing any of these vehicles, or even just taking a look at them, the auction event starts on Friday, July 14 at the collection in Norwalk, Ohio. That Friday is just a preview day, and the following Saturday and Sunday are auction days. And if you can’t make it, you can bid online, or check out more photos and video at the VanDerBrink and Hackenberger websites.
