Lorry maker Tatra has operating profit under new owner

Koprivnice, North Moravia, July 17 (CTK) – Czech lorry maker Tatra made an operating profit of Kc83.8m on a turnover of Kc762.1m under a new owner in a period of March 15 to June 30, Tatra Trucks spokesman Andrej Cirtek told CTK Wednesday.
The Koprivnice-based firm belongs to Tatra Trucks.
Former owners had not published business results of the company last year.
“Short-term objectives, that is resumption of production and fast growth of the company’s efficiency have been fulfilled,” said deputy chairman of the board of directors of Tatra Trucks Radek Strouhal.
Tatra has plans to produce 880 vehicles this year. The capacity of the production line has risen from three to four lorries a day. In the future the daily volume is expected to rise to five vehicles amid maintaining one-shift operations, said Cirtek.
Tatra believes to get a boost from a new product it has developed, a vehicle adapted to move across the field. It has been developed for farmers to replace a tractor.
“We are now visiting our old/new customers in the Near and the Middle East, India, Russia, Central Asia and in other places creating foundations of a future growth,” said board chairman Petr Rusek.
The current capacity is sufficient to make around 3,000 cars a year with the use of more shift operations, a level the firm plans to achieve in the years ahead, said Rusek.
A new managerial team led by Petr Karasek has joined the firm this week. Its priority is working out a development strategy of the firm.
Vratislav Kulhanek and Petr Hrdlicka are members of the team.
Tatra is a traditional lorry manufacturer. Four Czech and foreign investors represented by Ronald Adams of the USA had controlled Tatra from 2006. This year, however, Tatra was put up for auction over its debts, its value put at Kc1.765bn. Tatra’s debt amounted to Kc1.5bn.
As of April of the year the firm is in the hands of Czech entrepreneur Jaroslav Strnad (65 percent) and of Promet Tools owned by Czech businessman Rene Matera (35 percent).

Loprais, hopelessly behind in the overall standing, has no other chace that trying to get a stage victory. He finished 2nd today, with Ardavivhus (Kaz) and his Tatra finishing 6th.
Silk Way Rally 2013 corresponds its last chapter and extremely demanding race in the footsteps of the Silk Road has its winners and losers. How to evaluate Ales?
“Today’s stage was measured 85 km. Although it was short, it was especially challenging for the chassis to the neck. I went to the maximum, it turned out to be the second place. Better to just not work. We started well back, and had to overtake twenty opponents. Even so, as a result, our third podium finish at the Silk Way forward this year. We could not go, although the overall result as a complement to our collection of bronze and gold laurel from previous years, however, twice second and once third stage location gives us hope. If Queen goes without failure, so literally flies. We will continue to develop and debug this new truck for the next Dakar rally in 2014, “ commented the last seven stages and interaction with the Silk Way Rally 2013 Ales.

The sixth Joker stage
After the turning Thursday the crew 301 planned to improve mood by the great performance in the stage. In the first part it was apparently successful.
What happened then, comments Aleš Loprais, who is also after yesterday optimistic and smiling: “Today we wanted in the slang words slice the stage. It worked until the CP1, where we had the fastest spit time of all trucks. New fault, however, came early. The 4×4 drive spoiled, so we had the end of the speed trial reach literally by jumping only with the rear-wheel drive. We have stopped for 15 minutes, but we couldn’t repair the drive. We also bogged down in a small sandy field where we have lost another 15 minutes. At least I learned to drive through mid dunes fields only with rear-wheel drive, which is also adrenaline. To the next day will be the 4×4 drive ready again and we go again!”

After yesterday’s silver stage we were all delighted and pleased. Start stage was fantastic and flew with the wind in the wilderness of the race. But then it started to complicate …
Further course and conclusion of the fifth phase describes Ales as follows: “Today we were back on the Queen limit. We started as the third fastest vehicle in accordance with the results of yesterday’s stage. Start went great, new chassis settings proved to be the right way. Total 100 km after the start we got the fastest Kamaz. In a cloud of dust, it was impossible to overtake. In sandy fog for us filed another Russian Kamaz Nikolaev, who rode very well today and started over. Exactly the 156-th km special stage, however, we tore saving ventilation system, where chladíme important parameters such as servo control, motor oil and water. We had to stop. Although the car was traveling, but then we could not go on stage already. Queen would have destroyed. At this point, we have already removed the fault and the next day use option called Joker. In other words joker allows us to continue to compete with the specified penalty. So test the Queen will continue and we go on! “

Already the sixth stage and will start and finish at Astrakhan. SS “Dungeons Khazar” will run from 20% dunes, 45-sandy surface% and 35% will consist of a quick stretch in the steppes. The decision to embark on a race against hastily and recently completed the car without much testing was not easy. In the last game to chvill was also a possibility of the two princesses. July 11, stage 5, Elista – Astrakhan
SS 5 « A Thousand and One Dunes »
On this stage the role of the co-drivers will have extra importance as they will have to find the right direction and closely follow the road book if they are to be among the leaders.
The rally heads south, traversing tracks in the steppe. On some sections, the track could be in poor shape and the teams will have to be careful not to get caught out in the holes and ravines hidden in the grass. Visual benchmarks will be rare and paying very close attention to the road book will be the key to a strong performance.
Then, the first difficulties will present themselves and there will be little civilisation to speak of in this desert-like landscape.
At half-distance the competitors will be able to relax just a bit as the track will become more rolling, especially when crossing the pastures. Then, suddenly, the rally heads south towards the foothills of the Caspian Sea.
This 150 km section is a new addition to the Silk Way. The competitors will then have to cross a massive sand zone. Navigating in the heart of the desert, they will only see the horizon when reaching the top of the dunes.
50 km from the finish line, the pace will pick up despite the sand covered tracks.
Those who check in at the finish of this stage will certainly be considered as heroes!
