Kopřivnická Tatra has another job for their current employees. After three years of negotiations to ensure the company’s new management contract for $ 4.5 billion.

Brno – Information has leaked from the file on the case of U.S. citizen Ronald Adams, former director general of the Czech Tatra lorry maker, charged with corruption, and key witnesses have got access to documents with classified data, his defence counsel Radek Ondrus told reporters today.
“Massive information leak has occurred. This is why we have initiated the investigation to find out whether the abuse of public office was committed,” Ondrus said.
The trial of Adams continues at the Brno Municipal Court today without him since he had asked for the court proceedings in his absence beforehand.
According to the charges, Adams offered a 20-million-crown bribe to then deputy defence minister Martin Bartak in exchange for the Defence Ministry placing further military orders with Tatra, during the negotiations about the supply of off-road vehicles for the Czech military in 2009.
If found guilty, Adams faces up to five years in prison.
Bartak, who accused Adams of corruption, and arms dealer Michal Smrz are witnesses in this case.
Bartak said Adams had talked about the bribe at the IDET trade fair in Brno in 2009. Adams dismissed it.
However, Bartak and Smrz are charged with bribery in an interconnected case.
Smrz´s testimony was read in court in his absence today.
Smrz, director of the MPI Group arms company, testified that Adams had offered a bribe to him, too, previously for arranging orders for Tatra. Later Adams wanted to hire him as a lobbyist and he offered him 20 million crowns to secure a meeting with the prime minister, Smrz said.
“I did not offer a meeting with (then PM Mirek) Topolanek, he (Adams) asked for it himself,” Smrz said, calling Adams “a liar and fraudster.”
However, Ondrus said today´s testimony by Smrz was not connected with the alleged bribery at the IDET fair.
Smrz and Bartak are accused in another corruption case. Bartak allegedly asked for a bribe to solve the problem Tatra faced with the supplies for the Czech military. Adams will be a witness in this case that is yet to be proceeded.
The Prague Municipal Court will deal with the case.

Lorry maker Tatra has operating profit under new owner

Koprivnice, North Moravia, July 17 (CTK) – Czech lorry maker Tatra made an operating profit of Kc83.8m on a turnover of Kc762.1m under a new owner in a period of March 15 to June 30, Tatra Trucks spokesman Andrej Cirtek told CTK Wednesday.
The Koprivnice-based firm belongs to Tatra Trucks.
Former owners had not published business results of the company last year.
“Short-term objectives, that is resumption of production and fast growth of the company’s efficiency have been fulfilled,” said deputy chairman of the board of directors of Tatra Trucks Radek Strouhal.
Tatra has plans to produce 880 vehicles this year. The capacity of the production line has risen from three to four lorries a day. In the future the daily volume is expected to rise to five vehicles amid maintaining one-shift operations, said Cirtek.
Tatra believes to get a boost from a new product it has developed, a vehicle adapted to move across the field. It has been developed for farmers to replace a tractor.
“We are now visiting our old/new customers in the Near and the Middle East, India, Russia, Central Asia and in other places creating foundations of a future growth,” said board chairman Petr Rusek.
The current capacity is sufficient to make around 3,000 cars a year with the use of more shift operations, a level the firm plans to achieve in the years ahead, said Rusek.
A new managerial team led by Petr Karasek has joined the firm this week. Its priority is working out a development strategy of the firm.
Vratislav Kulhanek and Petr Hrdlicka are members of the team.
Tatra is a traditional lorry manufacturer. Four Czech and foreign investors represented by Ronald Adams of the USA had controlled Tatra from 2006. This year, however, Tatra was put up for auction over its debts, its value put at Kc1.765bn. Tatra’s debt amounted to Kc1.5bn.
As of April of the year the firm is in the hands of Czech entrepreneur Jaroslav Strnad (65 percent) and of Promet Tools owned by Czech businessman Rene Matera (35 percent).

On stage in the first stage
The first stage of a total length of 744 km from Tambov to Volgograd containing two speed trials is successfully behind us.
Aleš Loprais shared emotions of the way and achieved the third place in the stage:
“We experienced an initial baptism of fire with the Queen. The girl still has a lot of childhood diseases. We have finished the trucks literally a minute before the technical acceptances, so we had to count with all of this. Wipers did not work for a while which is an unpleasant thing if you have to go with it over 400 km. Although it was not raining we got through few muddy places that we had to pass through. I sent everything to the navigator to have clean at least my part of windscreen, which is the only solution in terms of safety. We had also a little problem with fuel supply. The car horn and acoustic overtaking device also stuck. The overtaking acoustic device Sentinnel also incredibly roared into the headphones till the finish. But we had to resist. The headache lasted for over 60 km and then the locomotive horn failed. However, we gradually interact with a successor to the Princess and the podium finish surprised the whole team and me pleasantly. We continue in testing the Queen and gradually tune the dampers and the other setups. And we keep going on!”
The crew 306 ended in the first stage on the 14th position.

Tomorrow’s second stage will lead in the footsteps of history around Volgograd. The speed trial 2A will be from 40% consist of sinuous tracks on hard ground, from 50% of sandy tracks and from 10% of dunes. Two new timed sectors in a region the rally will pass through for the first time. This stage has historical significance, as this year is the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Stalingrad. A particularly important event that will honor the 100s of thousands of soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in saving the world from fascism.
The speed trial will feature everything the Silk Way is known for: fast rolling tracks, alternating with tighter sections that on occasion will be rocky. The drivers will have to give this stage their undivided attention. Then the dunes and off-road section where navigation will make the difference.
Then comes a neutralization zone on the motorway that will take the competitors to the start of the 2nd speed trial.
The speed trial 2B (“The joy of driving”) will consist from 35% of sinuous tracks on hard ground and from 65% of fast tracks. The competitors will then have 120 more km of the speed trial on varied and unpredictable terrain, where the drivers and co-drivers will share the same pleasure.
A short 18 km liaison section will lead the field back to Volgograd.
Hopefully the windscreen washers and wipers will work tomorrow and the Queen will quickly grow up…

Brno, July 2 (CTK) – The long awaited trial of U.S. citizen Ronald Adams, former director general Czech Tatra lorry maker, who is charged with corruption, started at the Brno Municipal Court yesterday.
According to the charges, Adams offered a 20-million-crown bribe to then deputy defence minister Martin Bartak during the negotiations about the supply of off-road vehicles for the Czech military.
Adams did not appear in court since he had asked for the court proceedings in his absence beforehand.
His testimony in which he denied the corruption charges was read in court yesterday.
If found guilty, Adams faces up to five years in prison.
Bartak, who accused Adams of corruption, will testify in the trial as a witness. Bartak said Adams had talked about the bribe at the IDET trade fair in Brno in 2009. Adams dismissed it.
However, Bartak himself has been charged with bribery in an interconnected case. He allegedly asked for a bribe to solve the problem Tatra faced with the supplies for the Czech military. Adams will be a witness in this case that is yet to be proceeded.
According to the police, Adams offered Bartak a bribe in exchange for the Defence Ministry placing further military orders with Tatra.
Adams says about the case he had several negotiations with influential businessman and lobbyist Michal Smrz in February 2008. Smrz allegedly conveyed to him high-ranking people’s requirement for a bribe that was to ensure a problem-free completion of the delivery of 588 off-road vehicles for the Czech military for 2.7 billion crowns. The charges are based on Smrz and Bartak’s testimony.

In March 2012, Gen VK Singh had said that Lt Gen Tejinder Singh had offered him Rs 14 crore to clear a tranche of 600 Tatra trucks for the army. He also alleged that the offer, made in September 2010, was on behalf of Ravi Rishi, owner of Vectra group.
