The unknown Tatra finishes the Dakar
The Artur Ardavichus and Tomas Vratny teams after the ceremony at Valparaiso
First ever Phoenix to reach the Dakar finish
Finish in Valparaiso
Dakar Team Holland did it. The Tatra Phoenix crossed the finish line in Valparaiso and thus completed the 2014 Dakar. After long days and short nights it was time for the stage was.
After a wonderful tour of honour in Valparaiso’s center, we were greeted by the large number of enthusiastic people at the podium for the medal ceremony. The turnout was huge and the team has thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful evening.
Today we are going to offer the vehicles at the port for transport direction “Le Havre”. After that we will travel to the capital: “Santiago” where we take a plane on January 20 for the Netherlands.
We want to thank all our fans that they followed us during this difficult rally and we hope you enjoyed it as us!
Loprais comments on the Dakar 2014
Loprais’navigator Serge Bruynkens frustrated and will leave the Loprais team.
Both trucks of the Bonver Dakar Project finished the Dakar!
Artur Ardavichus and Tomáš Vrátný successfully completed Rally Dakar 2014! Both crews of the team Bonver Dakar Project finished in tied 12th and 28th place in the last stage. Pep Vila Roca completed the last stage in exactly the same time as Artur. Congratulations and thanks to all of you for your support!
Loprais gets 2nd stage victory, Karginov the overall Dakar winner.
Finally, the clash of titans between Iveco and Kamaz will have been a close one until the very end. Although the Russian team seized the overall lead from the get-go with Ayrat Mardeev and was still in the pole position with Andrey Karginov twelve stages later as the race came Valparaíso, the outcome of the 36th Dakar was full of suspense, reminiscent of some of the memorable battles seen in the motorcycle and quad categories over the last few years. Kamaz’s Andrey Karginov seemed set to take a win earned on the Chilean sands, but one obstacle blocked his way in the last special. Car no. 319 swerved and ended up stuck on the track of the last timed sector, just in front of the Russian, who lost 10 minutes. Meanwhile, his closest pursuer and winner of the previous stage Gerard de Rooy used his starting order to slip ahead. All in all, Karginov lost 9′34″ to the Dutchman. However, race officials deducted 5′20″ from the time of the no. 306 Kamaz, handing Russia’s Andrey Karginov his first Dakar win by 3′11″ over Gerard de Rooy. Behind them, the other Kamazes hogged places 3 to 5, with defending champion Eduard Nikolaev, Dmitry Sotnikov and Anton Shibalov. It is a pity that this awesome edition had to go without the fireworks of Pieter Versluis, Martin Kolomý and Ayrat Mardeev, who had to drop out in stages 10, 9 and 3, respectively, while Aleš Loprais’ Dakar was a mixed bag, with the Czech driver finishing in sixth place, over five hours off the pace.
We should almost forget that Loprais was the stage winner. Starting way down the field due to his technical problems in stage 12, he did his utmost to forget his bad luck and managed to finish his Dakar with a good feeling. He took victory in the last stage!
In the end however, Loprais, having started way back down the field, appeared to be the fasted truck driver of the day and became stage winner!

Loprais comments on stage 12
18.1.2014 NEWSLETTER INSTAFOREX LOPRAIS TEAM
|
Ing. Lucie Houthoofdtová |
Stage 12: Loprais strikes trouble while de Rooij and Karginov battle for the overall lead.
Stage 12: The site chosen in El Salvador at high altitude towers over the usual location of the bivouac in Copiapo. This position will ensure that the Camanchaca, the morning mist which sometimes hinders the start of the stages, will be avoided. Sand will be featured on the route again, in particular with a big string of dunes to be overcome at the end of the special stage. And if there are dunes, this automatically means that vehicles will be blocked in the sand! Therefore, in the categories where competitors are neck and neck, the leaders may put themselves at risk.
It is with a lead of 59″ over Gerard de Rooy that Andrey Karginov has reached the time check point at 229km. Third placed Eduard Nikolaev trails his team-mate by 2′12″.
Along with his team-mate Jan Tomanek, Ales Loprais (Tatra) has stopped after 168 km. He was in the leading group in the truck special. There is no info at the moment if he continued, but he is missing in the CP rankings.
In the end, de Rooij beated Karginov by just 31 seconds, though Karginov stays in the lead of the overall rankings.
Loprais’problem was a cracked hose from the compressor. He managed to repair his truck, but he lost about 2hrs 45 seconds. In the end, Loprais finished 32nd, loosing 2 hrs 53 min on stage winner de Rooi. He dropped in the overall rankings to 6th spot, 5 hrs 10 min after overall leader Karginov.
