From l to r: Pavel Kasik and family, Frank Kollinek and wife, Ken Uffheill, the Danny Barnett team, Barbar Frolich, Guido Smit, Paul Greenstein andn Dydia deLyser (and dog Harpo) the Lane Museum T 603 drivers, David Russell, John Long with wife and daughter, Kees Smit. Kneeling: Chris Oerstrom and Jeff Lane. All were enthusiastic, saying it was the first American Tatra meet! (O.K.; with some Europeans)
Pavel Kasik took his wife, son and mechanic along his freshly restored T 77 to become the winner of the Tatra class.
Kees Smit took his wife Barbara and his T 77a from the Netherlands to California
Chris Ohrstrom (Virginia) with the ex Ian Tisdale, ex Hampton Wayt T 87 did not make it to the Rolex Tour as the clutch failed, meaning he had to take the engine out, repair the clutch and fitting the engine in a very short time. He succeeded and was chosen as the third best Tatra by the Jury, making it to the PB podium!
Canadian T 77a and T 87 owner John Long was invited with his T 87 and enjoyed the meeting very much. “Some years ago, I was here with my silver T 77a, but I then felt a little bit of a stranger with such an unknown car; This meeting is much nicer, with all the Tatras and the Tatra enthusiasts.” Along with John came his brother Greg, his wife and daughter.
David Russell was the only Tatraplan representative. He took his late, VW engined, Tatraplan.
Jeff Lane from Nashville, Tennesse, entered his T 97. He also entered the former Rene Bergher T 603-1 on the name of his museum. The guy on the 125 cc CZ motorcycle is motorcycle entrant from Los Angeles who also own a magnificent T 87 together with his wife DydiadeLyser
Danny Barnet of Las Vegas was a last minute entry. After already having bought tickets for PB to see the Tatras on show there, he just thought “Why don’t I ask them if they want my car” and he succeeded! With his brother Jack and Kenneth Uffheil, who took a plane from Texas to Las Vegas, and two other passengers, they drove the narrow mask 1966 T 603, an original US car, imported by an American Jawa dealer, to Pebble Beach.
Toronto based Frank Kollinek toko his T 603 with him. Dressed in a Czechoslovak army uniform, he was a much photographed participant.
Last, but not least, we should mention Texas Tatra enthusiast Kenneth Uffheil. He flew from Texas to Las vegas, worked for two days on Banny Barnett’s T 603 before to join the T 603 yellow submarine team to Pebble Beach. Ken is seen here with with his friend Jackie Stewart, former F1 world chmpion, who now has an apprecianticeship with Ken to study Tatra technology.
Historic racing cars to “Dessauer race weekend”
Klaus-Lothar Bebber: On October 3, it goes to the historic journey on the A9!
Dessau (db). What promises that one should also keep!
True to this old adage will be cashed on February 8, given the technology Hugo Junkers promise Automotive guild master Klaus-Lothar Bebber. The historical Hanomag diesel, with the one on the highway track in Dessau world records were run, comes back on the A9!
And he is not alone, says Bebber, for the occasion of the “historical race weekend Dessau – 75 years Aerodynamics” until October 5 to come from 2 other historic sports and racing cars to Dessau. Klaus-Lothar Bebber: “To date, we have the promise of a DKW racing machine from 1921, a DKW F1 from 1931, a Meier lightweight from 1935, an eagle Super Sport from 1937, an Alfa Romeo Jankovits – 6C2300 of 1937, the Hanomag Special Roadster from 1936, the Hanomag Autobahn 1938, the Hanomag 1.9 liter diesel record car of 1939 and a Tatra 87 of 1939 from the post-war period are based on the DKW F9 F8 of 1938/1948 , the Greifzu 1 formula racing car of 1948 and a DKW Monza 1956 there. “These are some commitments from, so that we expect further historical vehicles.
For Klaus-Lothar Bebber, who prepared the four days of Dessau with the Hanoverian Horst-Dieter Görk from Hanomag Club and organized a great event. And as a framework program was developed, which could make no tourism operators better. This ranges from lectures in the Museum of Technology Hugo Junkers, city tours, visiting the Anhalt Theatre, the Palace of Oranienbaum and an evening in the historic oak wreath in Wörlitz. Accompanying this “race weekend” from 1 Dessauer sidecar meeting on 4 October 9 to 17 clock at the art museum. There are no specifications for the model years, it is open to all.
The highlight, as Klaus-Lothar Bebber is safe, but is the ride on the A9 be. On 3 October, all historic vehicles meet at the highway entrance Wolfen in the direction of Berlin. Approximately 10 clock, it goes to the A9 for demonstration runs in the direction of Dessau. Assured it was blocking the A9 from Dessau to Berlin. For Photo interested the bridges over the A9 may thereby be ideal.
The program
The program of the four days since days on the internet “www.technikmuseum-dessau.de” of cost. Interested in the presentations are welcome and have to pay according to Klaus-Lothar Bebber, only the normal admission cost for the art museum.

We have seen that Tatras are present in many European countries, in Africa (South Africa), Asia ( Vietnam), Australia, Northern America. Until now South America was the only continent where a Tatra classic car was unknown, but here it is! It showed up in the Brazilan town of Araxa, a city and municipality in southwest Minas Gerais state, at a classic car show.
Araxá / MG – Collecting and restoring old vehicles is a worldwide passion – you can find this hobby enthusiasts in all countries. It is estimated that in Brazil, the antigomobilismo today has approximately 10,000 practitioners – and every year millions of people are attracted by the hundreds of meetings classical models, which occur in all states. From 18 to 22 June, the cinematic scene of Taua Grande Hotel Spa & Convention in mining Hidromineral Araxá really gained an air of “period piece.” The surroundings of the hotel was taken for more than 300 cars from different eras and countries, who came to participate in the 21st edition of the National Meeting of Old Cars. The biennial event is sponsored by Fiat and also receives the name of Brazil Classics Fiat Show. The expectation is that over 40,000 people have attended to admire the “veterans” exposed.
The site said over the T 87 all the well known fairy tales:
Tatra 87, 1947 – The Tatra was created in the city of Koprivnice, in today’s Czech Republic. Today is dedicated to the production of trucks and military vehicles – in partnership with American Navistar. One of the most significant brand car, the Tatra 87 had a rear engine V8 3.0 liter air cooled which produced 85 bhp and reached 160 km / h. The resemblance to the old Beetle is not casual. Adolf Hitler – who ordered the creation of a “volkswagen” means “people’s car” – and Ferdinand Porsche, who presented the first prototype of the German compact in 1936, were greatly influenced by the Tatra 77, launched in 1934 and which led the Tatra 87. Hitler had experienced Tatras during political tours of Czechoslovakia and had also dined several times with Hans Ledwinka Austrian designer models the Czech brand. After designing the popular vehicle envisioned by the “Führer”, talking about Ledwinka Porsche admitted “Well, sometimes I looked over his shoulder and sometimes he looked over mine”. The Tatra filed a lawsuit – interrupted in 1939 when Nazi Germany annexed Czechoslovakia. The matter was reopened after World War II and in 1961 Volkswagen paid 3 billion DM to Tatra in an out of court settlement.

25 – 27 July 2014 (TRUK event) –
Tatra Register UK Annual Rally 2014 – 25-27 July
This year’s rally is based in Ironbridge – a world heritage site and
key contributor in Britain’s industrial revolution, on the
magnificent river Severn and easily accessible from the motorway
network (7 miles from M54 J4). Our hotel base is a listed building,
originally the house of a local tile manufacturer, with the famous
iron bridge only a short walk away. The area also has many, many
B&Bs for those that want alternative accommodation. We will
cover about 60 miles in total over the weekend, taking in some
excellent local scenery.
Hotel: Valley Hotel (http://www.thevalleyhotel.co.uk/) – Tatra Register UK has a rate of £138 per night for a
double room, including 3 course meal with coffee. We will be having a formal dinner in the hotel on the Saturday
night, so book at the £138 rate for Saturday night. If you’re arriving late on Friday or want to eat in one of the
many pubs in Ironbridge on Friday night then the B&B only rate is £95. Or book at the full rate – Ian and I will be
eating in the hotel on the Friday night and you’re welcome to join us.
To book: Ring the hotel on +44 (0)1952 432247 to book at these special rates – the code word is TATRA. The hotel
will want to take a £10 deposit, so have your credit card handy. Say if you need ground floor accommodation /
lift, and ask to speak to Jo if you have any queries.
B&B: Here are a couple of websites with a variety of options – remember to check on a map how far away they
are from the hotel (postcode: TF8 7DW) and how hilly – we are based in a gorge.
http://www.ironbridgeguide.info/ironbridge_accommodation/bed_and_breakfast.shtml
http://www.ironbridge.info/bed_breakfast/
First activity: Friday 25 July 3pm – we will be leaving the hotel for a
museum visit. There will be a rally fee of £10 per adult and additional
approx cost of visits including parking are £16pp EXCLUDING Severn Valley
Railway – that depends on you. If you have an English heritage card or an
Ironbridge passport, don’t forget to bring it with you.
Before and after the rally: There is masses to do in Ironbridge and the
area before and after – the hotel offers a Sunday night special of £109
DB&B. If you are going to visit other attractions, there is an Ironbridge
“passport” http://www.ironbridge.org.uk/plan-your-visit/buy-tickets-online/ – Ian and I particularly recommend
Blist Hill including a visit to the pub there and a hot pasty from next door! If you like walking, the Wrekin is en
route from M54. If you are in the area in advance, DO NOT visit the Museum of the Gorge, the Tar Tunnel,
Stokesay Castle or the Severn Valley Railway as we will be visiting them on the rally.
If you are coming in a Tatra or other “collectible”, be aware that our
visit to the Severn Valley Railway coincides with their Classic Vehicle
Day. Great …but they won’t accept a group booking, so you need to
email the organiser Chris Tallents at christallents@hotmail.com – do
this immediately as you need to be
on the invitation list by 1 March.
Include details of vehicle, name, full
address (the application form will be
posted), phone and email. Otherwise
it’s the public car park.
There’s also plenty of other things to do in Bridgnorth if steam’s not your thing –
the Cliff Railway (England’s oldest and steepest inland electric funicular railway –
and the best way to get to town). And (bit more of a walk) the largest waterwheel
powering a corn mill still working in England today.
And don’t forget to tell Kirsten kirsten@aricia.ltd.uk that you’re coming along – I’ll have a booking form available
shortly.
