TATRAS 4th, 13th, 21st, 32nd, 37th and 45th in DAKAR’s FIRST 144 km LONG STAGE

no comment Posted by smitkees
The competitors will be rapidly plunged into the heart of the Argentinean countryside. The combination of the route’s different features means that there will be something for everyone, while sticking to relatively simple criteria, for the time being. Fast tracks coupled with sharp bends will divide up the vehicles, according to the levels of the drivers, who will be tested in an exciting environment which marks this first special stage, but without singling out any particular category. At the end of this warm-up, the day will finish with a long liaison section to the first bivouac.
Martin Kolomy with his Buggyra Tatra finished 4th in Dakar’s 2015 1st stage with excactly the same time as Ales Loprais (MAN). Arturt Ardavichus of the Bonver Team finished his Jamal in 13th place, ahed of teammate Tomas Vratny (21st) Dutchman Gert Huzink, debuting in the truck class, did well with 32nd spot with his Tatra Phoenix while the pole Jan Szustkowski came home 37th and the Slovak Kasak 45th. The second stage will be quite longer though, making it the first real Dakar stage.

Ales Loprais comments on Tatra-MAN switch for the 2015 Dakar

Dakar2015Lopraiscomments onTatra-MAN switch

For his 9th Dakar, Ales Loprais is perhaps at a turning point in his career. Although there has not really been a falling-out with the Tatra brand that has shaped his family’s long history (6 Dakars won by his uncle Karel), the most consistent Czech driver of the modern era will be taking starter’s orders in a MAN truck!

Just before entering the technical scrutineering circuit, Ales showed that he has already dealt with the sentimental side of a change in colours: “The family name is definitively linked to Tatra, but now I’m embarking on a new journey, and for me it’s an entirely positive step.

The Bonver Dakar project; the multi-national team with three nosed Tatra trucks

Dakar2015BonverGroupsPhoto

“After the last Dakar, where Artur Ardavichus introduced a brand new Tatra Jamal, I promised to construct two more trucks. We really managed to construct and prepare them for the Dakar. I am glad that from the technical and development point of view, we can be compared with the best ones. I would like to thank everyone who participated in the construction of the trucks and preparing the technical base of the team before leaving for Dakar, said Tomáš Vrátný, the chief of the team and the pilot of the Czech-Slovak team crew. Together with him, the Slovak navigator Jaroslav Miškolci and Milan Holáň, the on-board mechanic and the main team technician, will present themselves in the cabin of the new bonneted special Tatra Jamal.

The second team crew will consist of the Kazakh-Czech trio composed of Artur Ardavichus, who occupied the excellent third place in 2012, while representing the Kamaz team, the navigator Alexey Nikizhev, and the on-board mechanic Daniel Kozlovský. The third racing special of the Bonver Dakar Project team will be driven by Robert Jan Szustkowski. This talented Polish racing driver will be accompanied by the navigator Jaroslaw Kazberuk and the on-board mechanic Filip Škrobánek.

no comment Posted by smitkees

Dakar2015Huzink

In this year’s Dakar, Tatra’s top team of Ales Loprais, wasn’t able to ready its nosed Tatra truck in time. He will be driving a MAN instead for the Dutch Vega team. Tatra drivers with a chance to finish high are now Martin Kolomy (Buggyra Tatra No 506)http://www.buggyra.com/dakar/?page=zpravy&kategorie=2 and two of the Jaml Tatras of the Bonver Dakar Project raced by Artur Ardavichus (515) and Tomas Vratny (517). The Pole Jans Szustkowski (539), also from the Bonver Dakar team, will do his utmost, but joined the team only last year. Finally, Slovak Robert Kasak will drive a Tatra T 815 and Dutchman Gert Huzink http://www.riwalddakar.com/ the ex-Marcel Schoo, ex Pierre Blom Tatra Phoenix in this year’s Dakar. Though it is Huzink’s first year at the Dakar with a truck, he competed in the car category the last three years, reting in all.

Just Cool Cars: 1947 Tatra is their Czech mate; The Long couple interviewed by US Today at Pebble Beach

no comment Posted by smitkees
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — There’s no mistaking a Tatra.
With its sloping back and a big fin, the Czech-made Tatra T-87 stands out on any road. John Long and Helena Mitchell know. They have taken one of their Tatras — yes, they’ve owned several — all over North America.
After all, it’s not many couples that drive their car to the Arctic Circle and back, much less making the trip in an obscure European auto. Long says he even took the air-cooled car across the Mojave Desert in summer. “That,” Long says, “was really stupid.”
Long, of Malibu, Calif., says he considers the car to be brilliantly engineered. It is also one of the more aerodynamic cars for its time. It is said that Ferdinand Porsche was influenced by the design when it came to designing the cars that would bear his name.
We caught up to Long and Mitchell over the summer at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, where crowds gathered around their T-87. Long and Mitchell made the Tatra a little less obscure.

Miroslav Zikmund handed out the Order of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk

no comment Posted by smitkees
On Oct. 28 every year, the day celebrating the establishment of an independent Czechoslovakia in 1918, the head of state of the Czech Republic recognizes individuals, both Czechs and foreigners, who have made a significant contribution to the country. Past recipients include European heads of state, from Queen Elizabeth II and King Juan Carlos to Jacques Chirac, François Mitterand and Ivan Gašparovič, U.S. politicians such as former presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton and former secretaries of state Henry Kissinger and Madeleine Albright, writers like Karel Čapek and many others.
Miroslav Zikmund got the Order of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk (1st class, for outstanding contribution to the development of democracy, humanity and human rights). Born Feb. 14, 1919. Writer and traveler. Along with Jiří Hanzelka, he visited more than 80 countries, wrote some 20 books and promoted the former Czechoslovakia and Czech-made Tatra cars in the world. Both travelers condemned the invasion of Czechoslovakia by the Warsaw Pact troops in August 1968, and this is why they were banned from traveling and publishing. After the fall of the communist regime in 1989, Zikmund made his first journey to Australia, and he also traveled to Siberia and Sri Lanka again. President Václav Havel bestowed a medal of merit on Hanzelka and Zikmund in 1999.

Loprais’ Tatra not homologated for the 2015 Dakar; will race Dutch VEKA Team, German MAN truck instead with Czech-Spanish-Belgian crew

no comment Posted by smitkees

Dakar2015LopraisMANIntroduction

The preparations for upcoming Rallye Dakar are approaching.

This race represent the turning point for Ales, the InstaForex Loprais Team driver, since he will start at Rallye Dakar 2015 in a new truck made by MAN which was prepared in a dutch team VEKA.

In his last performance at successful Rallye Breslau in Poland, he started with his special truck TATRA QUEEN 69, with which he placed 6th overall and won two stages at this year’s Dakar.

Technical official Fabien Calvet rejected the participation of the Queen at Dakar 2015, that is why this change needed to be realized.

Because all the information about the alleged technical differences and the necessities of rebuilding the whole special Queen came only three months before the truck transport to South America, we were forced to find different solution. Dakar is a whole year project and reconstruction of such an complex truck was for us impossible from both technical and financial reasons. Furthermore, our truck has a valid homologation till 2018 and is made from modified series components which allow us to participate at other marathon races such as Silk Way or Africa Eco Race with no problems. Currently we are negotiating the participation of our Tatra and a contract for a new pilot at mentioned Rally Africa Eco Race.

I am very happy that in such a short period of time we managed to find cooperation with team Veka which provides us with competitive truck MAN for Dakar 2015” said Ales Loprais.

I would like to thank not only the team VEKA for this cooperation, but also the team BUGGYRA with which we started an alliance Loprais Buggyra Dakar Forces with Gyrtech aggregate.

The alliance spirit will continue on the roads as well as in bivouac at Dakar.

ZUZANA

no comment Posted by smitkees

ZUZANA 2 is an advanced wheeled 155mm self propelled gun howitzer developed by KONŠTRUKTA-Defence and produced by ZTS – ŠPECIÁL primarily for the Ministry of Defence of the Slovak Republic.

The artillery system is a new version of the 155mm / 45 calibre ZUZANA self propelled howitzer which entered into service with the Slovak Army in 1998. ZUZANA 2 is capable of conducting multiple round simultaneous impact (MRSI) operations.

The howitzer was demonstrated at the International Exhibition of Defence and Security Technologies (IDET) 2011 held in Brno, Czech Republic and at the International Defence Exhibition (IDEB) 2014 in Bratislava, Slovakia.
