The second rider in the finish was Van den Brink with Renault and the third one was Nikolaev with Kamaz, when the leading trio crossed the finish line within less than thirty seconds.
“Of course, we are happy, every victory in the Dakar counts, but we stay on the ground and concentrate on the upcoming days.” Dakar is a very challenging and especially a long race. The finish is far ahead and it is there where we are up to.” said Aleš Loprais. Other Tatra drivers took it easy. Kolomy finished 9th, Soltys 25nd,and Vrnak 37th.

On the occasion of St Wenceslas Day, the Czech Embassy in The Hague, Netherlands, organised a reception where tens of ambassadors from countries all over the world attended. My personal T 87 was invited to give acte de presence. It was parked in the courtyard of the Embassy, close to the entrance and admired by several ambassadors and several Czech and Slovak people, telling me about their childhood in Czechoslovakia and members of the family who owned Tatras, mostly Tatraplans. The Czech ambassador in the Netherlands, Jana Reinišová, was also quite interested, and enjoyed being behind the wheel.

In November 2014 the Czech and Slovak ambassadors in the Netherlands received the first copies of the “Rotterdam Yearbook 2014″ from the City Archivist Ms Jantje Steenhuis. In this book Mr Gert Andeweg describes an event in Rotterdam in the First World War which proved to be of historic significance: Professor Tomáš G. Masaryk, the first president of Czechoslovakia from 1918-1935, chose the neutral Netherlands to share his vision of a new state in a postwar Central Europe with Robert W. Seton-Watson, a friend at the British newspaper The Times. In October 1914 they met in secret at the Hotel Weimar, which was situated at Spaansche Kade corner Haringvliet in the very center of Rotterdam. Seton-Watson reported about his conversations with Masaryk in a “Memorandum on the future of Bohemia”, which he sent on November 5, 1914 to the British Foreign Office. Copies were shared with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs in Paris and St. Petersburg. Consequently, Masaryk’s ideas became known to the Allied States of WW I.
In the peace agreements after the end of WW I, Masaryk’s intellectual input at hotel Weimar proved to be of prophetic significance. The borders of the new states were drawn along lines that Masaryk mentioned to Seton-Watson four years earlier.
Because of the importance of this historic meeting Mr Pieter J. Goedhart, Czech expert and co-author of books about this country, and Mr Jan C. Henneman, former ambassador of the Netherlands in the Czech Republic, took the initiative to establish a monument commemorating this event.
The Foundation Comenius Museum is ready to become the (legal) owner of the monument in Rotterdam.

25 SEPTEMBER 2017
Ostrava, North Moravia, Sept 23 (CTK) – Czech disabled bodybuilder Daniel Minster, 44, has become the first in the world to tow a heavy lorry, a Tatra Prasident weighing 11.5 tonnes, that he pulled away by 252 centimetres on a track during the Day of Records in Ostrava on Saturday.
Minster, a bronze medallists from the Arnold Classic 2017 professional bodybuilding contest, ended up in a wheelchair after a road accident ten years ago.
He said immediately after the record that his arms were aching the most.
He was supported by bodybuilder Lenka Ferencukova who also managed to tow away the Tatra lorry on Saturday. However unlike the wheelchair-bound Minster, she could use her legs and managed to pull away the lorry by 440 centimetres.
Minster, who has been training bodybuilding since the age of 16 and has been a registered contestant for four years, tried to score a similar record for the first time, he admitted.
He was just testing it in the middle of the week when he pulled away the lorry by one meter only. Otherwise, he went to a gym as usual, he added.
“The training has definitely helped me coordinate movements in the wheelchair. I have a better stability and trust myself more in it,” said Minster, who plans to take part in several competitions next year.
Ferencukova said Minster could set an example for many other disabled people.
