Nearly 3,000 visitors attended a 6-hour long open house on EU Day, 7 May 2011, at the Czech Embassy in Washington, DC, partaking of Pilsner Urquell, and homemade goulash (no knedliky). The Embassy hosted a Tatra exhibit as part of the Open House day, where all EU Embassies opened their doors to the public.
The Lane Motor Museum from Nashville, Tennessee brought their 1935 Tatra T57. It was driven by James Green. From Toronto, Canada, John Long and Heléna Mitchell brought their 1938 Tatra T77A. Ivo Slezak and his family from Massachusetts brought their 1948 Tatra T87. The Tatra line-up was completed by two Tatra trucks destined for American customers.
Several other North American Tatra enthusiasts like Ray Juncal made the trip to the East Coast. Paul Greenstein and Dydia DeLyser, winners of last year’s NYT “most desirable classic car”award left their car at home but compensated it by dressing up as a Czech legionnaire and Eliska Junkova, Czechoslovakia’s famous female Bugati racer.
