Tatra is soon to start assembling some of its trucks in either Russia or one of the other post-Soviet republics. Over the past few weeks, it has begun to recruit new workers who will make the necessary parts at the OEM’s factory in the north Moravian town of Koprivnice.

Tatra has last year and the year before combined lost approximately CKr1.3bn (US$67.1m) and reduced its workforce from 3,700 to merely 2,300. “In 2009, our financial situation was probably the worst in the past fifty years,” conceded general director Gerald Adams.
